ALCOSAN Partnership Agreement
Col. Adam Czekanski, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, and Michelle Buys, the director of Environmental Compliance for Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN), sign a Public Partnership Agreement, while Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County executive stands witness, during a ceremony in Pittsburgh, Jan. 11, 2023. The two organizations signed an agreement to authorize funding for construction of a grit chamber along Spring Garden Run, a neighborhood located in the northern area of Pittsburgh. The grit chamber construction is estimated to cost approximately $4.3 million and expected to finish by the end of 2024. Once implemented, the chamber will remove 200,000 pounds of grit and sediment annually from the sewer system that causes long-term damage to treatment facilities.
