Given the chronic flooding, siltation and flood risks throughout Mahoning County, Ohio, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Pittsburgh District, with assistance from Huntington District, is holding an interagency-coordinated, public informational meeting regarding flood risk management at the public high school in the Village of Lowellville on Tuesday, August 16.

The public portion of the meeting starts at 1:30 p.m., with presentations by federal, state and county agencies and regional organizations. The meeting will address the different agencies’ authorities, types of pre- and post-flood assistance, and studies that may be requested, including descriptions of non-structural flood risk reduction measures that municipalities and homeowners may adopt to better protect themselves.

Floods in Mahoning County threaten the safety and health of local residents, reduce area property values and stress economic resiliency. This meeting is intended to increase flood risk awareness throughout the county and provide insight regarding agency programs potentially available to even the smallest municipalities and individual property owners.
