The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces Mill Creek Recreation Area at Berlin Lake is going cashless.

DEERFIELD, OHIO – Several changes are coming to the Mill Creek Recreation Area operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Berlin Lake. Changes include how visitors will reserve and pay for campsites, in addition to waiving day use fees.

In order to take advantage of the efficiency offered by available technology, and to remain consistent with other USACE and state campgrounds in the region, Mill Creek Campground is going to be converting to reservation only and cashless operations, effective immediately. These changes are being implemented to allow the project staff to provide better, more efficient service to our visitors, while also reducing costs to the government associated with the handling and processing of cash and checks.

Reservations for all sites can be made through Reserve America by going online to Recreation.gov or by calling the toll free reservation line at 1-877-444-6777. This will include all the campsites that were previously available as walk-in sites. Cash and checks will no longer be directly accepted at the Mill Creek Recreation Area, with payments being accepted by credit or debit cards only. There will still be the opportunity to book same day reservations for a campsite by calling or going online before you leave your house, while you are on the road, or even when you arrive at the campground, as long as vacancies are available. If a visitor arrives at the campground without an advanced reservation, there will be information posted at our campground booth explaining how to make a same day reservation.

In addition, the Mill Creek Recreation Area will no longer collect fees for any of the Berlin Lake Day Use Areas, including the Mill Creek Boat Ramp. Please be aware that boat ramp users who are not camping are restricted to only the boat ramp facilities. Campers will receive a camping pass and boaters will receive a boat ramp pass that must be displayed on their rear view mirror. The projected 2018 recreation season will run from June 29 to Sept. 4.

The USACE is the nation’s largest federal provider of outdoor recreation, managing more than 400 lake and river projects in 43 states and hosting more than 370 million visits per year. With 90 percent of these recreation areas within 50 miles of metropolitan areas, they provide a diverse range of outdoor activities close to home and to people of all ages.
