Crooked Creek Lake Hosts Operation Dark Frost Exercise

PITTSBURGH – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is scheduled to conduct “Operation Dark Frost” a multi-agency emergency management exercise at Crooked Creek Lake.

What: Fort Armstrong Wireless Association K3QY participates in a bi-annual nationwide event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League. It is conducted by Amateur Radio Organizations in cooperation with federal, state, and local emergency management agencies. These exercises are traditionally held on the first Saturday of October and the first Saturday of April each year.

Where: Crooked Creek Lake Outdoor Discovery Center, 142 Kerr Road, Ford City, PA 16226

When: 7 – 11 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5

Why: The exercise is an opportunity for local first responders to identify processes, develop new skills, and increase interoperability in order for agencies to better serve local citizens. Participating emergency response forces will complete the exercise with valuable tools working as a team in field operations.

Pittsburgh District’s 26,000 square miles include portions of western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio, western Maryland and southwestern New York. It includes more than 328 miles of navigable waterways, 23 navigation locks and dams, 16 multi-purpose flood control reservoirs, 42 local flood-protection projects, and other projects to protect and enhance the nation’s water resources infrastructure and environment.
