What: The Pittsburgh District is revisiting the Stonewall Jackson Lake master plan and is seeking feedback on the proposed changes to the management of the lake, resulting from public input. The master plan update, which was last updated during 1982, will affect the future use of natural resources and recreational activities at Stonewall Jackson Lake for the next 25 years.

Why: Changes in the Corps’ regulations and the community needs have necessitated a revision to the master plan. The revision will classify the government lands around the lake based on environmental and socio-economic considerations, public input and an evaluation of past, present, and forecasted trends. Corps regulations require a periodic review of the plans to ensure they meet the current public and environmental needs. The master plan guides the use of government-owned and leased lands around the lake in a way that promotes safe and healthful use while maintaining environmental safeguards to ensure a quality resource for public use. The plan does not address water management operations, associated prime facilities, i.e. dam, spillway or shoreline management, as separate documents outline those operations.
