Corps invites the public for Earth Day and Great American Cleanup

 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District invites you to celebrate Earth Day and the Great American Cleanup. As part of a year-round commitment to the environment, Army organizations join with local communities to celebrate Earth Day on or around April 22 each year and the Great American Cleanup on or around April 28.

Earth Day/Great American Cleanup Events at District projects:

 

Shenango River Lake:

 

Keep America Beautiful Litter Pickup is on Sat., April 21, volunteers will meet at the Ranger Station at 8 a.m.

 

Earth Day will be celebrated on Sun., April 22. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Bayview ORV Area. Work will include litter pickup, reposting the riding boundaries, and clearing downed and hazardous trees.

Mosquito Creek Lake:

 

The lake will celebrate Earth Day on Tues., April 24 at 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., volunteers will meet at Lakeview Recreation Area for litter pickup, trail maintenance and general cleaning.

Tionesta Lake:

 

Are you looking for an Earth Day project? Are you a frequent visitor to Tionesta Lake or a boater or lakeshore camper who wants to help clean the areas that you love to use? Or are you just someone that is looking for an opportunity to give back by volunteering? Please consider participating in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tionesta Lake’s 2012 Lake and Shoreline Clean-Up on Sat., April 28, 2012, rain or shine. Individuals and Scout and other groups are welcome! Please plan to meet to register between 8:30 and 9 a.m. at the Tionesta Lake Boat Launch parking lot. Work crews will disburse from there, some by boat and some on land to nearby park areas. For maximum safety, please wear closed toe shoes or boots, long pants, long sleeve shirts, hats and rain/cold weather gear. Gloves, safety vests and trash bags will be provided. Please bring your own drinking water and snacks. The clean-up will continue until 1 p.m., followed by a free lunch!

Allegheny Reservoir:

 

Shoreline Cleanup, May 12

 

The 8th Annual Allegheny Reservoir Cleanup will be held May 12. Volunteers will meet at Elijah Run Boat Launch - 8 a.m. for boats and 8:30 a.m. for volunteers. The day will end at 3 p.m. Snacks, coffee, donuts and a picnic will be held after the event. Dress with closed toe shoes, long pants, and bring your own lunch and snack. Dress for the weather!
