Corps to extend Allegheny Lock hours for upcoming events

Published June 27, 2012

The US Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will be extending the hours of service on Locks 2, 3 and 4 on the Allegheny River on June 30, July 3rd and 4th.

The hours of operation will be extended until 2 a.m. the night of June 30 for the Kenny Chesney concert and July 3rd and 4th for the Three Rivers Regatta fireworks. The final lockage each day will be at 1:15 a.m.

The rest of the locks on the Allegheny River will remain under normal operating hours. Please click here for the normal lock schedule:

Due to the high volume of river traffic, boaters are urged to wear their life jackets and use extreme caution while on the rivers.

Boaters should also be aware of the hazards of the fixed crest dams on the Allegheny River which are marked with danger buoys.

The Three Rivers Regatta has also established River Safety Zones during the event. See page 2.

The Pittsburgh District’s 26,000 square miles include portions of western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio, western Maryland and southwestern New York.  Our jurisdiction includes more than 328 miles of navigable waterways, 23 navigation locks and dams, 16 multi-purpose flood control reservoirs, 42 local flood protection projects and other projects to protect and enhance the Nation’s water resources, infrastructure and environment.
