Corps to open upper Allegheny River locks for special events

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District will open the upper four locks on the Allegheny River, Aug. 16, 17 and 23 for special events. Allegheny River Locks 6, 7, 8 and 9 will be open to recreational boaters during the following times:

Saturday, August 16 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, August 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday, August 24

These locks are normally closed to recreational traffic and open to commercial traffic by appointment only.

Hours of service will remain unchanged for Allegheny River Lock and Dam 2, C.W. Bill Young Lock and Dam, and Allegheny River Lock and Dam 4.

Allegheny River Lock and Dam 5 is currently operating under revised hours due to staff shortages. Since July 8, it has been operating from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday through Monday, for all traffic and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. by arrangement for commercial traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday (Navigation Notice 14-31.)
