Mahoning Creek Lake Hosts 75th Anniversary

MAHONING LAKE –In 1941, 75 years ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed Mahoning Dam and placed it into operation.  Since, that time Mahoning Dam has been providing flood protection for the lower Allegheny River Valley and the upper Ohio River.

In commemoration of this major accomplishment, Mahoning Creek Lake will hold a 75th Anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.

The event will include a variety of activities and informational booths including public viewing of the Mahoning Creek Lake from the top of the dam, approximately 16 local stakeholders’ informational booths, tower tours for pre-approved groups, Mahoning Creek’s visitor center, scenic overlook trail viewing, free courtesy safety checks for boaters by the USCG Auxiliary, special appearances by Bobber the Water Safety Dog, and a 75th anniversary tree-planting recognition ceremony.  All visitors are invited to participate in these activities. The festivities will take place in and around the dam areas, and offer something for the entire family.
