    Colonel Bernard R. Lindstrom, Pittsburgh District Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will transfer leadership of the Pittsburgh District to Colonel John P. Lloyd during a traditional military Change of Command ceremony Friday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum located at 4141 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Major General Donald E. (Ed) Jackson Jr., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations, will preside over the ceremony.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will be collecting and subsequently analyzing groundwater samples from the Shallow Land Disposal Area site beginning Monday, June 27. The sampling should take approximately three days and three months for the completed analysis.
  • Mahoning Creek Lake Hosts 75th Anniversary

    MAHONING LAKE –In 1941, 75 years ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed Mahoning Dam and placed it into operation. Since, that time Mahoning Dam has been providing flood protection for the lower Allegheny River Valley and the upper Ohio River. In commemoration of this major accomplishment, Mahoning Creek Lake will hold a 75th Anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.
  • Army Corps study recommends North Shore ecosystem restoration project

    PITTSBURGH – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District has released a report recommending the restoration of approximately 7.3 acres of aquatic and floodplain habitat along the North Shore of the Ohio River at its headwaters near downtown Pittsburgh. Nonprofit partner, Riverlife, will hold an informational meeting about the project at the Carnegie Science Center on Thursday, June 9 from 5:30-7:00 pm. The report can be viewed at the Army Corps website and the public is requested to submit comments about the report through July 5.
